  • Kickboxing - Aiden

Today, we started with kickboxing in the morning, starting with our 1, 2, 3, 2 combos and practicing adding a knee. We worked on doing our combo then moving forwards with the inside part of our knee and twisting in order to get the most strength from our knees.

  • Sticks (Double & Single) - Niko

After we completed the kickboxing, we followed up with the sticks that we practiced with yesterday, and we went back and used the combinations that we had with a single stick as a recap. We then moved on to the double sticks. Using two of these sticks required more focus and precision as we partnered up and began to practice. We were first taught a very basic combination to use on our own swinging from the bottom than top and then top again. This was a very basic combination to get us used to having both sticks. When we finished this first exercise we moved on to partner combinations. These required teamwork and focus to create a rhythm with one another. We started by swinging high with each stick and then moved to a low hit. We all practiced with our partners for a couple of minutes until moving onto the next combination. This next combination was similar as we started high and then went low using our right-hand stick and then switched to the left and hand went high to low. After some practice with our partner we moved to the hardest combination where we combine the previous two. While this was difficult as it required following the right partner and having the proper hand movements it was a very fun and challenging task.

  • Jiu Jitsu - Aiden

After our great time learning how to use sticks, we moved on to the jiu-jitsu segment, where we practiced learning how to take an opponent down after performing the clench technique we learned yesterday, involving pulling their legs out from under them with either our foot or hand and the technique that followed both methods. Next, we practiced keeping the upper hand while on the ground, learning how to plant our hands firmly to prevent falling off our opponent as well as performing a swim maneuver to keep our arms in the right place. Finally, we used all this knowledge to learn a technique called the “buck, trap, and roll”, which involved trapping our opponent’s arms and legs and rolling them over, in order to get on top of our opponent if they were on top of us.

  • Dodgeball, End of day seminar and activities - Jordan

After returning from the gym we spent some time reading the first three chapters of The Psychology of Winning by Denis Waitley. The book teaches you about the qualities of a winner. After the reading we split into groups for seminar. In seminar we discussed what we thought about the beginning of the book and gave our opinions on the advice it gave. and worked on our presentations about the different martial arts.
